The National Assembly has been struck by another wave of mourning following the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented the Anambra South Senatorial District.

Naija News reports that Ubah died in the United Kingdom at the age of 52, becoming the fifth federal lawmaker to pass away since the 2023 general elections.

Ifeanyi Ubah’s Passing

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah traveled to the UK several weeks ago for medical treatment, where his condition reportedly worsened.

Though details of his illness remain undisclosed, his untimely death has deeply saddened his colleagues and constituents.

Ubah, who first won his Senate seat in 2019 on the Young Progressive Party (YPP) platform, was reelected in 2023 before switching allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He had intended to run for the Anambra State governorship in the 2025 off-cycle election.

Ekene Adams

Just two weeks prior, the House of Representatives mourned the loss of Ekene Abubakar Adams, the member representing the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

Adams passed away at 39 after battling health issues. Known for his dedication to public service and sports administration, he chaired the House Committee on Sports and was a first-term representative.

Before entering politics, Adams managed football teams like Remo Stars and Kada City in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Abdulkadir Danbuga

Another loss came with the death of Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga, representing the Isa-Sabon Birni Federal Constituency.

Danbuga, a member of the APC, succumbed to a brief illness on October 11, 2023. His colleague, Aminu Almustapha, confirmed his death, and arrangements were made for his burial in Sokoto.

Danbuga left behind a family including two wives, children, and grandchildren.

Isa Dogonyaro

In May 2024, the National Assembly mourned the passing of Rep. Isa Dogonyaro from the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency in Jigawa State.

His death was announced by fellow lawmaker Mohammed Bello El-Rufai.
Dogonyaro was recognized for his legislative understanding and commitment to public service.

He was declared the APC candidate for the House of Representatives in 2023 after a legal challenge regarding the primary election results.

Ismaila Maihanci
