ISWAP Claims Responsibility For Kogi Church Attack

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Celestial church in the Felele area in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

Naija News reports that the insurgents numbering about six killed at least two worshippers and injured three others during an attack on Sunday night.

It was learned that the gunmen stormed the church in a fiery mode and started shooting at people in the vicinity. The injured victims are said to be currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Lokoja.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, William Ovye Aya, had said the command received a distress call of some hoodlums invading a Celestial Church behind the NNPC mega station and began shooting.

In a tweet via his Twitter page on Tuesday, Counter Insurgency Expert, Zagazola Makama, said ISWAP has said its fighters were behind the attack in the state.

The terrorism expert disclosed that the dreaded terrorist group has a camp inside Okene forest from where it is coordinating attacks in Kogi State.

Makama added that the terrorists have intensified attacks on soft targets especially churches located in isolated communities following an inability to coordinate attacks on military positions.

He revealed that the terrorists had attacked EYN Church near Biu Local Government Area, where they burnt down the structures and looted food and other valuables.
