The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has disassociated itself from allegations concerning a supposed ₦40 million mortgage pre-financing initiative involving HXAFRICA and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Friday, NiDCOM characterized these allegations as untrue and deceptive.

The disclaimer, which was signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols at NiDCOM, emphasized that any legitimate announcement regarding a diaspora mortgage pre-financing scheme would be made in partnership with the FMBN.

Additionally, the agency indicated that although HXAFRICA had submitted an application to participate in the proposed program, it had not yet been granted any approval.

NiDCOM cautioned the public to be vigilant against these fraudulent claims and recommended that individuals obtain information solely from the official websites and social media platforms of NiDCOM and the FMBN.

It read, “Disclaimer Re: ₦40 million Diaspora Mortgage Pre-financing By HXAFRICA and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

“This is to warn members of the public that the above post is false and fraudulent.

“Any announcement on the diaspora mortgage pre-financing will be made by both the FMBN and NiDCOM on the websites and social media handles of both agencies.

“While the company has applied to be part of the proposed programme, it has not been granted any approval.”

NiDCOM, however, stated that it was concluding arrangements with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ensure the protection of potential beneficiaries of the scheme, further warning the public against falling victim to fraudsters.

“To ensure the protection of potential beneficiaries of the Diaspora mortgage scheme, both agencies are at the final stage of concluding arrangements with the CBN.

“Please beware of fraudsters and await genuine information only from the FMBN or NiDCOM, or both,” it cautioned.
