JUST IN: Ex-Imo Commissioner Dumps APC For PDP
The immediate past Commissioner for Foreign Affairs in Imo State, Fabian Ihekweme, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naija News reports that Ihekweme was received into the PDP at the Kanu Nwankwo stadium in Owerri on Wednesday by the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.
On hand to receive the former commissioner were former Governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and other members of the party.
The PDP leadership also welcomed back a former chairman of the party in the state, Charles Ezekwem, with other hundreds of supporters.
Earlier, the Imo state chapter of the party had organised a reception to welcome the National Secretary of the party, Senator Sam Anyanwu and the National Working Committee to the state.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Gusau, has been impeached by lawmakers in the state House of Assembly.
The lawmaker impeached Gusau during plenary on Wednesday after the House received the report of the committee.
The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, had set up a committee to investigate the allegations against Gusau.
The panel had Justice Halidu Tanko-Soba as Chairman, with Oladipo Okpeseyi (SAN), as Deputy Chairman and Abdul-Atadoga Ibrahim (SAN), Hussaini Zakariyau, (SAN), Amina Tanimu-Marafa, Alhaji Sani Mande and Ahmad Buhari-Rabah, as members.
Okpeseyi while presenting the copies of the report to the Speaker said they were not empowered to talk about the report with anyone.
The Speaker of the Assembly in his response to the report said they would work on the report with the context of section 188 of the constitution.
He then thanked the panel for discharging their duties in accordance with the law.
Twenty out of twenty-four lawmakers voted for the impeachment of the Deputy Governor on Wednesday.
