Just In: Fire Engulfs Lagos Blue Line Track

A fire broke out on a section of the Lagos Blue Line track near NEPA Station, opposite Eko Bridge in the Apogbon area of Lagos State.

Gboyega Akosile, the spokesperson for Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, shared on his X.com account (@gboyegakosile) that the incident occurred at 4:12 p.m. on Saturday.

He confirmed there were no casualties, and train services were not operating when the fire started.

Emergency responders, along with safety personnel, swiftly contained and extinguished the fire.

Akosile reassured locals that they could continue with their activities as the area is secure.

He advised residents to await further updates on train operations from @Lamataonline.

Newly Constructed Lagos Pedestrian Bridge Collapses After Truck Collission

A newly constructed pedestrian bridge at Five Stars Bus Stop, inward Iyana-Isolo, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, area of Lagos has partly collapsed.

Eyewitness who spoke to Vanguard disclosed that the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday at about 6.30 am.

It took the prompt intervention of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, to save the situation.

Upon arrival of LASEMA team, part of the pedestrian bridge had fallen with some portions shutting down half of the expressway.

According to investigations conducted by the LASEMA, the incident was caused by an unknown articulated truck conveying heavy duty equipment which collided with the pedestrian bridge which resulted in the cracks and eventual collapse of the bridge.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said heavy-duty equipment-giant forklift was activated to evacuate the impediment in order to avert all probable secondary incidents.
