2023: Wike In Talks With APC, May Dump PDP
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State may reportedly be leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following his loss of the Presidential Primaries, and Vice president slot of the party.
The Rivers governor who has been very quiet is said to have established talks with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
On Saturday, Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi arrived in Port-Harcourt and met with him in what is called “a friendly and brotherly” visit at 9pm.
Umahi’s visit makes it the first meeting with Wike after the former dumped the PDP for the APC following an alleged dissatisfaction with the party.
Wike and Umahi both contested the primaries of their respective parties. However, the Rivers Governor lost both president and vice-presidential candidacy after he was regarded as a victim of intense “powerplay and gang up” by vociferous forces within his party.
A South-South Coordinator of the Tinubu Support Group, Gabriel Abijah, in a recent interview with Politics Nigeria, revealed that Wike will soon join APC.

The governor disclosed this while meeting with over 135 PDP members drawn from the National Executive Committee, State Executive Committee, and Zonal Committee of the party, at the party Secretariat in Benin City.
According to the governor, the meeting became necessary following the defeat of the PDP in the just concluded Ekiti State Governorship election held over the weekend, in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election.
Obaseki said in order not to repeat the Ekiti episode in the presidential election come 2023, the party in the state needs to be united.

Buhari’s reaction was contained in a statement on Sunday by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.
Reacting, President Buhari in his statement said “the victory is well deserved considering Oyebanji’s contributions to the development of the State and the party, before his nomination as the standard bearer, urging him, however, to be magnanimous in victory in the interest of the people of the State.”

The Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has stated that the just concluded Ekiti governorship election was peacefully conducted.
In a statement released on Sunday, Oyebanji said the people of Ekiti on Saturday decided on who becomes the next governor of the state and elected him to be the chosen one.
He expressed his gratitude to the voters who voted for his party and also recognise all those who did not vote for the APC but participated in the electoral process.

Oyebanji who won 15 out of the 16 Local Government Areas of the state gathered 187,057 votes.

2023: ‘LP/NNPP Merger Threatened Over INEC Regulations’
The Labor Party, LP and the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP merger might face some difficulties due to certain regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the NNPP earlier confirmed on Saturday morning that his party was planning a merger with LP and Peter Obi.
He had said: “We are in talks with Peter Obi and a committee is working to look into how to form a merger between us.
“The merger is important because as you can see both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not pick their running mates from the South-East.”
In an interview with Daily Post, Nicholas Ibekwe, a journalist with Premium Times said that regulations by INEC might make the merger legally impossible.
He said: “First a new party via a merger cannot be formed in time for the election.
“INEC regulation prohibits the registration of a political party less than a year before an election.
“But they can collapse their structure to support one another for specific positions.”
