Defection: Aggrieved APC Senators Meet President Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met with aggrieved senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.
The lawmakers numbering about twenty-two had threatened to dump the ruling party following their failure to clinch the return ticket of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Chief Whip of the 9th senate, Orji Uzor Kalu who led the aggrieved lawmakers said the senators felt disenfranchised by the process.
President Buhari while addressing the aggrieved lawmakers at the meeting, charged them to exercise restraint in their plan to dump APC.
2023: Gov Uzodinma Tackles INEC Over Tinubu’s School Certificates
The executive Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has claimed that under normal circumstances, the school certificates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu should be available on the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
According to him, since the electoral body claimed it has a functional server, documents of the former governor of Lagos State as well as other politicians should domicile in the said server.
Naija News understands that Uzodinma made the statement while reacting to trending controversies surrounding Tinubu’s secondary and primary school certificates.
The Imo State governor tackled Nigerians for raising what he termed unnecessary conversation over the presidential hopeful’s school certificates.
Uzodinma said for someone who served twice as governor of Lagos State and also ran as a Senator and won, such discussions should not have erupted about his qualifications.
The Governor, however, said given the timeline available for their candidate, INEC would be provided with the necessary documents before the time elapses.
Benue APC Affirms Membership Status Of Guber Candidate, Rev Fr. Hyacinth Alia
Benue State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), on Tuesday denied rumours that the party’s records do not contain the name of the party’s governorship candidate, Rev Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
Mr. Austin Agada the state party chairman who stated this while addressing journalists in Makurdi said, contrary to the incessant propaganda raised by the PDP-led government in the state, Fr. Alia remains the party’s flagbearer.
The state party chairman revealed that all the membership registers, across the 23 local government areas in the state had been submitted to INEC as a party.
2023 Presidency: Obi, Kwankwaso Can’t Win Two States, Will Struggle In Anambra, Kano – Adeyanju
A human rights activist and social commentator, Deji Adeyanju has submitted that presidential candidates, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), can’t win the 2023 presidential election.
He stated that as things stand currently, Obi and Kwankwaso will struggle to win Anambra and Kano States respectively, adding that none of the two candidates can win two states in Nigeria during the presidential election.
According to Adeyanju in a Twitter post on Tuesday, this is because the bigger parties will unleash vote-buying and disenfranchise voters.
2023: Peter Obi Meets NLC Leadership
The presidential candidate of the Labour party, Peter Obi has furthered his consultation with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
Naija News reports that Obi on Tuesday met with the leadership of the union which is an umbrella organization for trade unions in Nigeria.
Obi is discussing with the leaders to solicit their support ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Recall that the presidential hopeful joined Labour Party after dumping his former camp, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Certificate: Tinubu Should Be A Studied As A Research Project And Not Questioned – Adamu Garba
Former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba has spoken in defence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu regarding the controversies surrounding his academic qualifications and certificates.
Naija News recalls there have been mixed reactions after reports emerged that Tinubu didn’t submit his primary and secondary school certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for screening ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu claimed that his school certificates were stolen by unknown persons during the military rule in 1990.
The former governor of Lagos State stated this in an affidavit submitted to INEC as part of his eligibility filings for the 2023 presidential elections.
It was gathered that documents released on Friday show that Tinubu left the columns for his primary and secondary education unmarked.
Tinubu, however, noted that he obtained a degree in business and administration in 1979 at the Chicago State University.
Adding his voice to the discussion about the certificate saga, Adamu Garba said Tinubu shouldn’t be questioned over mere paper qualifications.
2023 Elections: INEC Will Uphold Nigerians’ Choice – Yakubu
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, says the commission will uphold the choice made by Nigerians in the 2023 general elections.
Yakubu stated this on Monday when he received the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mahamat Saleh Annadif, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The INEC boss said that Nigerians will be allowed to decide who becomes the next president in 2023 and the commission will ensure that the votes of Nigerians count in the 2023 general elections.
Yakubu disclosed that the commission has registered 84 million voters and has registered over 10 million new voters in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the country.
