Magnus Abe Joins SDP After Dumping APC
Former Rivers South East Senator, Magnus Abe has joined the Social Democratic Party (PDP), days after dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development was confirmed on Friday by his spokesperson, Party Benson.
Naija News recalls the Rivers State politician had fallen out with the APC after losing the party’s governorship ticket and vowed not to support the candidate that emerged from the governorship primaries, Tonye Cole.
He also has a running political battle with former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Abe dumped APC last week but said he would get another platform to actualize his governorship ambition. He also added that he would be confirming his next political decision later.
The letter had read: “I wish to tender my resignation of membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“My decision to quit is not unconnected with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s seeming unwillingness to negotiate with me since he expects me to remain in the APC. Hence my resolve to seek an alternative platform to actualize my Gubernatorial Ambition in Rivers State.
“I feel it is time to move on with my Ambition, having served this country as a Lawmaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly, SSG of Rivers State, and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Let me also use this moment to thank my teeming supporters, and some of those that defected from the APC, for standing by me in all these years, more importantly, *H.E Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“In the coming days, I shall tell Nigerians my next political decision.”
Confirming his defection to SDP, Abe said on Friday: “Yes I am and I have been a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
“I remain irrevocably committed to the ideals that have driven my politics through the years. And will continue to do all we can to improve internal democracy in the politics of our country and focus on the people.”
A loyalist of Abe, Maurice Pronen has already emerged as the SDP governorship candidate but the former lawmaker may be taking over the ticket to actualize his 2023 governorship ambition.
