Man United Vs Liverpool: Ferdinand Names Players That Helped Red Devils At Old Trafford
Former English professional footballer, Rio Ferdinand has shared his thought about Manchester United‘s last night’s performance against Premier League (EPL) rivals, Liverpool.
In his highlight, the former Red Devils defender turned sports pundit, hailed three players who he believed helped United to defeat Jurgen Klopp‘s men in Monday night’s league clash.
Naija News reports that Liverpool was beaten 2-1 at Old Trafford last night, recording their first 2022/2023 EPL season defeat.
Courtesy of a goal each from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, United sealed their first league win this season after losing two games against Brighton and Brentford.
A goal from Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool hope for an equalizer, the Reds’ efforts, however, were not enough to play down Erik ten Hag’s men at Old Trafford.
Speaking some moments after the match, Ferdinand singled out the likes of Rashford, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez for their outstanding display against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He said: “Rashford looked like something we were used to seeing from years ago,” Ferdinand said on his FIVE YouTube channel.
“With the energy, the ability to run behind, the desire, chasing things down.
“The way that they [United] pressed was a pleasing factor but also the way they kept their shape.”
The sports pundit added, “The two centre-halves were outstanding, I thought [Raphael] Varane in the first-half covering was brilliant, and all through the game.
“[Lisandro] Martinez was out to people, getting up against people, being a nuisance… there’s a little bit of Gabriel Heinze in him, probably not as rash maybe, but I really like the look of him.
“I still think he will get isolated and targeted, but if he can perform to the standard today, what a big signing he could be.”
