Mathias Pogba: Paul Pogba’s Brother Slammed With Three-year Prison Sentence

Mathias Pogba, the elder brother of former Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, has received a three-year prison sentence for his involvement in an £11 million blackmail scheme targeting the football star.

According to the court’s ruling in Paris, Mathias Pogba will serve the first year of his sentence with an electronic bracelet, while the remaining two years have been suspended. He was also ordered to pay a fine of £16,500.

The case began in September 2022 when Paul Pogba reported that a group of his childhood friends, including Mathias, had attempted to extort a significant sum of money from him, claiming it was for “protection services” that dated back over a decade. This led to a judicial investigation into serious charges, including attempted extortion and organized criminal association.

Mathias Pogba voluntarily turned himself in during the investigation and was initially detained until December 2022, during which he was prohibited from contacting Paul or their mother. Following the trial, Mathias was convicted of attempted extortion for pressuring Paul, his family, and business contacts for the large payment.

Additionally, five other individuals associated with Mathias were also found guilty of charges related to extortion, kidnapping, and organized crime, receiving prison sentences ranging up to eight years and fines varying from £16,500 to £33,000.

In the meantime, Paul Pogba is navigating a challenging chapter in his career. Currently, a free agent after his contract with Juventus was terminated following a positive doping test result. He is facing an 18-month ban, effective from August 2023, and is working towards rejoining professional football by March 2025.
