WOUT Weghorst is not the only forward Manchester United have brought into the club this January transfer window.

On the eve of deadline day, the Red Devils announced the capture of 16-year-old wonderkid Gabriele Biancheri from Cardiff City.

It is understood he will join the club as a scholar, before signing a professional contract when he turns 17.

The move came completely out of the blue – with United beating Chelsea to the punch for the talent’s signature.

There is a belief that Biancheri is destined for a huge future in the game.

Can play across the forward line

Dynamic and blessed with pace, Biancheri can play anywhere across the front line.

He caught the eye playing for Cardiff’s development squad this campaign.

After bagging an incredible 17 goals and registering five assists for their U16s in just 11 matches, he was rewarded with a call-up to Darren Purse’s U21 squad last month.

It was a fairytale debut for the forward – who was introduced as a second half substitute with his side trailing against Wolves.

In true Roy of the Rovers fashion, Biancheri scored an equaliser just moments after his introduction.

High praise

Within Cardiff City, coaches including U18s manager Steve Jenkins have raved about the youngster’s ability.

“There’s a long way to go with him being only 16, but he’s been fantastic stepping up,” Jenkins told Wales Online before an FA Youth Cup clash against Crewe Alexandra back in December.

“Goals are brilliant for him, and his two against Bristol City to win us the game earned that call up to the U21s, and when he had his 45 minutes for them I was really impressed.”

The football federations of Wales, England and Italy will be keeping a close eye on Biancheri’s development.

He is eligible to play for all three countries, although he has seemingly pledged his allegiance to the Dragons.

Last October, the boy wonder played for Wales U17s in their UEFA European Championship qualifiers.

It is expected Biancheri will join United’s U18 squad, and if he impresses he will be promoted to the U23 side.

Should he continue his rapid rise, a first team call-up could beckon too.
