More punters backing Luton than Man City for title at 2500/1, Arsenal more fancied than Liverpool, Man Utd and Newcastle

MORE punters are putting their faith in promoted Luton Town to win the Premier League title than treble-winners Manchester City!

That’s according to research provided by bookmakers William Hill ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Luton Town, a 2500/1 shot to land the ultimate prize, have been backed by 7 percent of fans in William Hill’s Premier League outright market.

Bettors are clearly hoping the newcomers repeat the famous 5,000/1 league win of Leicester City in 2016.

In comparison, treble-winners and odds-on favourites Manchester City attracted a measly 5 percent of bets.

However, it is Arsenal that have turned most heads, with a league-leading 17 percent of William Hill customers picking the Gunners to win the Premier League this year.

With several new marquee signings in recent weeks including the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, the red side of North London are the team on everybody’s lips going into the new season.

Next favoured by Hills’ punters are Liverpool, with the Reds accounting for 13 percent of bets, while Manchester United are third most-backed with 11 percent of bets, over double that of their sky blue rivals.

Fans expect Newcastle to cement their Champions League status next season as the fourth best-supported side (10 percent), ahead of Tottenham (9 percent) and Chelsea (7 percent), while Luton Town (7 percent) and Burnley (3 percent) are shock inclusions in the Top 10 most backed for Premier League success.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “While odds of 4/6 might not represent much value to many, it’s still a big surprise the Manchester City have only attracted 5% of bets in our Premier League market, and it shows people think City are too short to win a record fourth title in a row.

“Arsenal and several others have had strong transfer windows, but amazingly 7 percent of fans have gone further and put their money behind Premier League debutants Luton Town.”
