National Convention: Details Of APC Governors’ Meeting Emerge
The details of the meeting of the governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday night has emerged.
Naija News gathered that the closed-door meeting which took place at the Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro in Abuja, was attended by at least 16 of the governors.
After hours of deliberation, the meeting ended at about 11:30 pm with the governors smiling and exchanging pleasantries.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the crucial meeting, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said the governors have agreed to go ahead with the party’s national convention slated for February.
Bagudu, who refused to give a specific date for the convention, said the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) would announce a suitable date for the event.
He added the convention committee would also meet with other stakeholders to harmonize all positions that will be contested at the convention.
Speaking further, Bagudu said a vote on confidence was passed on the Chairman of the CECPC, Governor Mai Mala Buni and members of the committee.
He said, “We are one group of stakeholders and our party respects institutions. The appropriate organ of the party that will announce a date for the national convention is the CECPC.
“We discussed our upcoming convention which I had the cause to address the press after visiting President Buhari in November 2021. He and the party agreed that the convention would take place in February.
“We took inputs about the reviews and we noted all the misrepresentations in the press that we seek to correct that the PGF is one united body as you can see evidently from the attendance.”
Some of the governors who attended the meeting were Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Babajide Sanwoolu (Lagos), Simon Bako Lalong (Plateau), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara).
Others were Babagana Zulum (Borno), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Kano), Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) and Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), Mohammed Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) and Dave Umahi (Ebonyi).
