Nigeria Vs Ghana: Lookman Reveals Why He Dumped England For Super Eagles
England-born professional footballer, Ademola Lookman, has explained why he accepted the invitation to play for the Nigerian National team.
Naija News understands that Ademola currently plays as a winger for Premier League club Leicester City, on loan from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
The 24-year-old player had represented England at youth levels and was among the U-20 side that won the FIFA World Cup in South Korea back in 2017.
The young lad in February 2022, received approval from the Federation Of International Football Association (FIFA) to represent Nigeria through his parents.
An invitation, the English player honourably say yes to.
Lookman made his debut for the Super Eagles against the Black Stars of Ghana in a 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff last Friday in Kumasi, Naija News reports.
He replaced Moses Simon in the 74th minute during the tough encounter in the West African country.
Speaking about his decision ahead of another encounter with Ghana in Abuja for the second leg of the qualifier match, Lookman said: “I am very excited to be part of Nigeria’s national team and I am feeling blessed and looking forward to helping the team.
“Both my parents are Nigerians and I have always seen these [representing Nigeria] as a possibility. I came to Nigeria frequently when I was much younger,” Lookman told CAFOnline.com.
He added: “I am familiar with the people and built up a family here, so the switch from England to Nigeria is not an unusual one for me. I am glad I made the switch.”
