Omokri Reacts As Buhari Orders Ministers With Political Ambition To Resign
Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri has reacted to the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to his ministers who have political ambitions to resign on or before May 16.
Naija News earlier reported that Buhari had asked all members of his cabinet running for elective offices to resign on or before Monday, May 16, 2022.
Reacting in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, Omokri commended President Buhari for directing his ministers who want to contest for the Presidency to resign with immediate effect.
The former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, however, said the directive is incomplete without the inclusion of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Omokri stated that the purported presidential declaration of Emefiele was in conflict with his position as the CBN chief, adding that the President should ask him to immediately resign.
He wrote: “General Buhari’s order to his ministers who want to contest for the Presidency to resign with immediate effect is commendable, yet incomplete. For it to have potency, it must be expanded to include Emefiele, the CBN Governor, whose conflict of interest is alarming!”
The Minister of information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed that the President had directed ministers seeking elective offices to vacate their offices.
Briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, Mohammed disclosed that the President’s directive excludes Vice President Yemi Osinbajo because he is an elected member of the cabinet.
The minister asserted that any further directive will be disseminated accordingly, adding that the order might involve political appointees if the need arises.
Buhari’s directive comes hours after the Court of Appeal set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court in Umuahia which voided the provision of Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022.
