Ondo Election: Six Hospitalized As Hoodlums Attack PDP Members
At least six individuals affiliated with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State have been admitted to the hospital after an assault by suspected armed assailants in the Idanre Local Government Area.
Naija News understands that the incident happened on Wednesday during a political event two days before the state’s gubernatorial election.
Kennedy Peretei, the spokesperson for the PDP, verified the occurrence in a discussion with Daily Trust.
“Yes, some thugs attacked our members at Idanre. Some of them are now hospitalised,” Peretei said.
He refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the assault but mentioned that it occurred during a gathering in the historic town.
In the meantime, the Ondo State Police Command has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The spokesperson for the command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, verified this information and indicated that the Commissioner of Police for the state, Oladipo Abayomi, has organized a peace meeting with representatives from the two principal political parties.
“The case, which involves violence and attempted murder, is currently under investigation. We are committed to ensuring that those responsible are held accountable and that peace is restored in the area, particularly at this critical juncture in the state’s history,” Odunlami-Omisanya said.
She also reiterated the commissioner’s warning that the police command will not tolerate any actions that could disrupt peace before, during, or after the election.
