Osun PDP Disagree With Gov Makinde On Call For Ayu’s Removal
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disagreed with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde over the call for the national chairman of the party to resign.
Recall that Makinde on Wednesday during a South-West stakeholders’ meeting with the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar had insisted on Ayu resigning from office.
Makinde stated that Ayu must tender his resignation for the party to move forward ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Caretaker Chairman of the party in Osun State, Akindele Adekunle in a statement released on Thursday said the South-West stakeholders never agreed to call for Ayu’s removal.
He said the call is not the position of the party in the region.
Adekunle stated, “Dr Ayu, who was duly elected at a properly constituted National Convention with a four-year mandate also has the vote of confidence of the party’s National Executive Committee, the party’s highest decision-making organ. Our party Chairman is a principled leader whose integrity is second to none. We consequently disagree with any move to undermine the office of the National Chairman.”
Ayu’s Resignation Is Possible But There Is A Condition Involved – Atiku Abubakar
The presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar had said during the meeting that the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Ayu is achievable.
Speaking on the crisis in the party during an interactive session with some leaders of PDP from the southwest zone in Ibadan on Wednesday, Atiku stated that Ayu’s resignation can only be possible if the party’s constitution is amended.
