Osun: PDP Expels Factional Governorship Candidate, Babayemi Seeking To Unseat Adeleke
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled a chieftain of the party, Dotun Babayemi.
His suspension was confirmed on Friday by the executives of his ward, Otun Balogun ward 2, Ayedaade Local Government, Gbongan.
Naija News understands Babayemi emerged as the factional gubernatorial candidate of the PDP for the recently concluded Osun 2022 governorship election.
He won the parallel governorship primary conducted by the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-backed faction held at the WIDCOF event centre in Osogbo.
The aspirant was however not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the commission identified with Senator Ademola Adeleke who went on to win the election.
Babayemi is however of the opinion that he should be the authentic candidate of the PDP for the Osun election, arguing that Adeleke did not validly emerge.
Amidst the development, the politician has now been suspended and expelled for anti-party activities, Naija News reports.
A statement from the ward excos which was read by the Secretary of the Ward, Ogunleye Bukayo, said the factional governorship candidate was found guilty by a disciplinary committee and has therefore been expelled from the PDP.
“The Ward Executive Committee of the party at its meeting of 20th July, 2022, received the report of the disciplinary committee, and after careful and extensive deliberations ratified the report of the disciplinary committee.
“The Ward Executive Committee of the Party in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 57(2) and 59 (1) (g) of the constitution of PDP hereby remove and expel Prince Dotun Babayemi from the Peoples Democratic Party. He therefore ceases to be a member of the PDP henceforth,” Ogunleye said.
