PDP Crisis: Ayu Reveals Why Atiku Chose Okowa Over Wike

The National Chairman of the People Democratic Party, (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu has given reason why the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar picked the Governor of Delta state, Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate over Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike.

Naija News reports that Ayu made this known while speaking during the Northern Christian Youth Assembly Summit in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to the PDP National Chairman, Atiku had picked Okowa because of his humility and more excellent performance in office.

His words: “We looked around and we thought we have to give not just a vice president that will assist him (Atiku) but we did our homework to select a man who is highly educated, very humble, and who has done very well as a governor in his home state.

“Okowa is the most qualified running mate. It is on his own personal merit that he was selected by the party as the vice presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar. I think Nigeria will be very lucky to have two such people who are committed to development who are detribalised who believe in uniting this country”

Naija News reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is angry over the manner of his loss to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the presidential primary and the failure of the former Vice President to pick him as running mate.

Governor Wike and his camp have demanded the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, in order to resolve the party’s internal wranglings.

However, Ayu has rejected the demand made by the Rivers governor, stressing that he will not resign from his position.
