PDP Divided Into Two Dominant Factions – Afegbua

A former Commissioner for Information in Edo State, Kassim Afegbua has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been divided into two factions.

Afegbua’s take is coming a few days before the commencement of the campaign season for the 2023 general elections.

The former PDP chieftain while speaking with Daily Independent this weekend noted that the party is divided between the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Afegbua further stated that Governor Wike enjoys the support of fifteen executive members of the National Working Committee of the party out of 19, while Atiku and the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu has the support of four members.

He pointed to the last meeting which saw fifteen members in support of Wike stay away, while only four members attended the meeting.

The former commissioner said this is a sign that Ayu does not enjoy the loyalty, support, and solidarity of the other fifteen members.

Afegbua while speaking on the vote of confidence passed on the National Chairman of the party wondered how long their decision would stand.

He recalls that the former Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus got a vote of confidence from members of the party’s National Executive Council but was eventually removed.

Afegbua said the support of the NEC members to keep Ayu in office might not last.

This comes at the time Governor Wike’s camp has been calling for the resignation of Ayu from office over Northern dominance in the party.
