PDP Reacts To Suit Seeking To Stop Presidential Primary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to a suit filed by one of its members seeking to stop its presidential primary fixed for May 28, 2022.

Naija News reports that a former Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Cosmas Ndukwe, had asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to stop the PDP’s presidential primary.

In a suit filed on April 19, Ndukwe asked the court to stop the upcoming exercise over the non-zoning of the party’s presidential ticket to the South East.

The PDP chieftain said he took the party to court over a rumour that the party’s zoning committee had thrown open its presidential ticket, a claim the Chairman of the committee, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, has denied.

In its notice of preliminary objection marked FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2022, the PDP asked the court sitting in Abuja to dismiss a suit seeking to stop its presidential primary.

The party pointed out that the cause of Ndukwe’s action relates to the internal affairs of the party, and it is non-justiciable.

The PDP added that the court lacks the requisite jurisdiction to entertain Ndukwe’s prayer, adding that the suit is statute-barred.

The court had earlier fixed May 5 for the hearing, during which the party is expected to show cause why the ex parte motion should not be granted.
