‘People Are Dying In Wards’ – Angry Patients Protest Blackout In UCH Over Electricity Debt

Medical activities have been halted at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, over a blackout in the health facility.

Naija News reports that a video making rounds on social media shows some patients and their families protesting the unavailability of water and electricity.

The aggrieved protesters lamented that the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, disconnected UCH’s power for 17 days.

The disconnect is said to have affected vital hospital operations, such as delays in test results and surgeries, among others.

In the video, some of the patients were heard saying: “People are in pains, people are dying in the ward, UCH don’t kill us, we want light. You people want to destroy the prestige of UCH, it’s a premium hospital.”

The hospital management who spoke with Daily Post said the hospital falls under the “Band A” electricity tariff structure, which requires them to pay N80 million monthly.

Mob Lynches Notorious Burglar In Rivers State

In other news, a man in Rivers State has reportedly been lynched by a mob.

According to police authorities, the man was lynched while trying to commit a crime and his remains were subsequently dumped on the road, where it was struck by a fast-moving vehicle, resulting in significant bodily damage.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed this in a statement on Saturday.

The corpse of the man was found lying along the Olu Obasanjo road in Port Harcourt.

Iringe-Koko said that when the police received the report, their operatives swung into action and discovered the corpse to be that of a notorious suspect operating in the area.
