The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for the urgent prioritisation of the girl child education.

He insisted that focusing on the education and  healthcare, particularly for the girl child, will lead to national development of the country.

The LP stalwart stated this in a post on his X handle, Naija News reports.

He asserted that investing in the girl child is a moral duty of the nation.

The former Anambra State governor, who spoke after engagements in Adamawa and Kaduna, highlighted the transformative impact of empowering girls through education, healthcare, and equal opportunities.

He explained that his visit to Kaduna’s Womanhood College of Health Sciences and Technology, where he donated ₦5 million, praising the institution’s role in training women for the healthcare sector.

Obi restated his commitment to supporting initiatives that foster inclusive development, stressing that dismantling barriers for girls is essential for building a sustainable and equitable future.

Meanwhile, Obi, has described Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s re-election as the World Trade Organization (WTO) Director General as heartwarming and well-deserved.

He described Okonjo-Iweala as Nigeria’s most valuable human capital export, symbolising hard work and excellence.

In his congratulatory message, Obi added that Mrs. Iweala is a beacon of hope and inspiration to all Nigerians, especially the young ones.

I am sincerely delighted at the reappointment of my very dear elder sister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation for a second term, effective from 1 September 2025.

“The very heartwarming news was just announced by the General Council of the organization.

“Iweala’s admirable character, impressive resume, and litany of achievements in public office stand her out as a competent leader for such a noble organization.

“With her very visible contributions to our national development and the global community, she remains one of Nigeria’s most valuable human capital exports to the world, a symbol of hard work and excellence, and a beacon of hope and inspiration for the younger generation.

“As she is set to continue to pilot the affairs of this global organization for another 4-year tenure, I wish her more health, strength, and wisdom to continue to stand for what is right,” Obi said

The former governor of Anambra State advised Nigerian leaders to also learn from Mrs. Iweala.
