Premier League title-chasers Aston Villa tell out-of-favour duo they ‘can go’ as boss Emery aims to bring two players in

ASTON VILLA will be restricted to a sell before they buy policy in the upcoming transfer window.

Out-of-favour Bertrand Traore and Calum Chambers are the first players on the chopping block as the side look to clear some deadwood.

Talking ahead of Villa’s clash with Everton on Sunday, Unai Emery said: “Chambers and Traore can go and if that happens, we can think about adding one or two players to the squad – but we are not focused on a particular player.

“I want to increase the level of the players who are here between now and the end of the season. In our situation is not easy to get something in this transfer window.

“We have to accept the rules of FFP and we know where we are. Every meeting we have with our owners is about how we will get better and how we will improve the squad. We are second in the league and we are still in the Europa Conference League and the FA Cup.”

Emery is reluctant to let midfielder Leander Dendoncker leave, given his reliable squad player credentials.

Dendoncker has featured eight times in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal – but is attracting loan interest from Belgium.

Villa could also let Jhon Duran leave, with the forward not seeing eye to eye with with Emery.

The Villans could therefore be in the market for a back up to Ollie Watkins this window.

Emery added: “Young players need experiences and Duran is having them with us. We need a second striker as we have to have a strong squad with two players for every position.

“We are happy with him. He is young and his commitment is improving. We are following the process we started when we took the decision to sign him a year ago.”

Villa’s progress under Emery has been unexpectedly rapid this season, with the club sat second in the Premier League.

They’ll move level on points with table toppers Liverpool if they beat Everton this weekend.
