Romelu Lukaku To Join Roma From Chelsea

Chelsea out-of-favour striker Romelu Lukaku is on the verge of moving to Italian Serie A side, Roma as all parties involved are making efforts to close the deal before September 1, summer transfer deadline date.

Roma representatives have been in London since last weekend due to this deal as Jose Mourinho’s side are seen as the last hope for Romelu Lukaku to play club football in Europe this season.

The 30-year-old Belgian striker is set to sign a one-season loan deal with Roma which will keep him in the capital of Italy until the end of the 2023-2024 season.

However, the BBC reported that there are some details of the deal that are still being worked out. Once those details are sealed, Lukaku would return to Italy for the second consecutive season.

Recall that Romelu Lukaku spent last season on loan at Italian Serie A giants, Inter Milan during which he scored 10 goals in 25 appearances.

Inter Milan made serious efforts to convince Chelsea to allow Lukaku to remain at the club this season with no success.

Reports claimed that Lukaku made the deal fail because he was not happy that coach Simone Inzaghi decided to bench him for the 2023 Champions League final which Man City won.

Juventus was also considering signing Lukaku, but they were unable to sell the required players to make room for the Belgian.

As it stands, the Belgium international is on the verge of reuniting with Mourinho at Roma. Mourinho persuaded him to join Manchester United over Chelsea when he joined the Old Trafford club in 2017.

After his spell at United, he moved to Inter Milan, and then in 2021, he returned to Chelsea, his first Premier League club, on a five-year, £97.5 million deal.

Just like in his first spell, Lukaku wasn’t able to establish himself at the club, hence, he returned to Inter Milan on loan and he is now out of Chelsea’s squad for the 2023-2024 season.
