Shekarau Set To Defect To NNPP As Kwankwaso Arrives His Residence
Senator Ibrahim Shekarau is reportedly set to finalize the details of his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Naija News understands a former Kano State Governor and chieftain of the NNPP Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday, stormed the residence of Shekarau in Kano to work out details of the defection.
The defection was to have been officially announced on Saturday but didn’t happen due to some undisclosed reasons.
However, with Kwankwaso and Shekarau’s meeting on Sunday, it is expected that an official announcement will take place tomorrow.
The former Kano Governor is expected to move to the new party with his supporters and entire structure in all the 44 local government areas of Kano.
Prior to this latest development, it will be recalled that the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje on Friday stormed the residence of Ibrahim Shekarau to prevail on him not to proceed with the planned defection.
It was gathered that Governor Ganduje and his predecessor had a closed-door meeting at Shekarau’s home late Friday.
Also, a source revealed that on Friday night, a jet was dispatched from Abuja to Kano to convey Ganduje and Shekarau for an emergency meeting towards resolving the crisis.
The meeting is understood to be part of the plan to forestall Shekarau’s plan to dump the APC for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
However, Shekarau was said to have snubbed the meeting after he discovered the meeting was not directly summoned by the presidency.
