‘There Was Nothing To Beg For’ -Adeleke’s Aide Speaks About Principal’s Visit To Makinde
The spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Olawale Rasheed, has clarified why his principal, Ademola Adeleke visited his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde.
Naija News reports that Rasheed dismissed reports that his principal went to beg Makinde when he visited him last Friday.
According to Adeleke’s aide, there was no reason for his principal to plead or beg Makinde.
Recall that Adeleke visited Makinde last Friday at the Oyo State Government House lodge in Abuja.
However, following his visit, reports emerged that he was there to beg Makinde and to solicit his support and endorsement of his candidate to replace the late National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Soji Adagunodo.
Adagunodo, who was once the chairman of the PDP in Osun State, died in May 2023 after a brief illness in the United States of America.
However, Adeleke’s aide, in a statement on Monday, said the recent meeting between his principal and his Oyo State counterpart was to discuss issues around the PDP in South West region.
Rasheed said his boss went to the Oyo Lodge to observe the renovation work in the building. Osun also planned to renovate its lodge and only took the opportunity to discuss issues concerning PDP in the region with Makinde.
He noted that there was no time when his principal prostrated or begged Makinde.
He revealed that the meeting between the two governors was held in the living room, after which photographs were taken in the presence of people in attendance.
Rasheed further stated that “Our attention has been drawn to a planted fake news about a purported private meeting between Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. The concocted lies in the said story have no basis in truth as at no point did Governor Adeleke have any private talk with his Oyo state counterpart.
“Governor Adeleke had visited the Oyo state Governor’s lodge to see the newly renovated Oyo State Government House as Osun state government is embarking on a similar renovation of Osun Government House located within Asokoro.
“It was also an opportunity for both leaders to review the state of the relationship and chart a path to strengthen the Peoples Democratic Party within the South West zone, including the issue of filling the vacancy existing within the party zonal leadership.
“The interactions were in the open, and at no point did the question of begging and prostration arise, as there was nothing to plead and beg about.
“We, therefore, urge members of the PDP across the South West to ignore the fake news and focus on making a success of the forthcoming zonal meeting in the best interest of the party.”
