Top Lawmaker Dumps APC For Kwankwaso’s NNPP
The lawmaker representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Senator Haliru Jika has reported dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News understands that the lawmaker announced his resignation in a letter to the chairman of Kafin Madaki Ward, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
Giving reasons for quiting the ruling APC, Senator Jika said he left the party after intense pressure from his supporters.
He stated that the pressure by his supporters were as a result of his failure to grab the party’s governorship ticket.
The lawmaker also disclosed that his resignation from the running party is with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, a source have disclosed to Peoples Gazette that the lawmaker joined the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
His defection is coming at a time Kwankwaso and other NNPP leaders confirmed talks to form an alliance with Peter Obi of the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.
Recall that Rabiu Kwankwaso had confirmed his party is in talks with Labour Party presidential flag-bearer over an alliance.
The former Kano State Governor confirmed this in an interview with BBC Hausa.
Kwankwaso in a barely three minutes video clip shared by BBC Hausa on Saturday morning, confirmed he is privately deliberating with Obi over the possible merger.
Speaking ahead of the 2023 elections during the interview, Kwankwaso said he is truly in talks with Peter Obi. He said consultations are ongoing in his camp and he believes the same is happening with the Labour Party.
