It was learnt that the gunmen started raining bullets on his convoy as soon as they sighted him coming to Effium community.

The lawmaker was thereafter taken to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for treatment as he was said to have sustained gunshot wounds.

In the first week of November, some gunmen allegedly killed 17 persons in Effium community, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

SaharaReporters had reported that the attackers invaded the community, shooting at residents, some of whom sustained injuries while 17 died.

SaharaReporters had also reported that there had been a lingering communal crisis between Ezza-Effium and Effium people of the Ohuakwu Local Government Area of the state since January 2021, which had resulted in the death of innocent persons and destruction of property worth millions of naira.

During the Easter break, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who visited the areas, assessed the level of damage caused by the conflict and promised that the Nigerian Government would do everything to ensure that security was beefed up in the communities.
