In the 90th minute of the game being played on Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, CO, USA, two fans ran on to the pitch.

Referee Oshane Nation swiftly stopped the play as stewards tried to tackle the pair of invaders.

Fans in the crowd appeared to be quite pleased about the interruption in proceedings given the state of the scoreline.

Mexico fans had earlier been heard chanting “ole” against their own team.

Indeed, the pitch invasion ended up prompting the referee to end the game three minutes early.

However, after the final whistle had been blown, violence erupted in the stands.

Footage showed as people were seen throwing punches towards one another.

It is unclear what sparked the scenes, but other spectators rushed to the melee to try and separate the aggressors.

Meanwhile, other fans from a distance away appeared to be throwing drinks and cups at those in the scrap.

Mexico will face Brazil on June 9 in their second warm-up match before the Copa America.

El Tri did not compete in the 2019 and 2021 editions of the tournament, despite previously competing in every edition from 1993 to 2016.

However, they were once again invited and accepted into the tournament this time around.

They have reached the final twice, and this time around their group consists of Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica, who will be their opponents in their opening game on June 23.

On the other hand, Uruguay are the second most decorated nation in the tournament behind Argentina with 15 titles to their name.

Although their last success came back in 2011 when they beat Paraguay 3-0 with goals from Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan.
