Wike, Others To Return To Nigeria After Visit To Spain

The five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) identified as G-5 on Monday jet out to the United Kingdom for a strategic meeting.

The governors who are expected to deliberate on the preferred presidential candidate in 2023, would also visit Madrid, Spain during their trip.

There are speculations that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his allies have finally abandoned the presidential candidate of their party, Atiku Abubakar.

The Governors are expected to deliberate on supporting either the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi or the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

A source that spoke with This Day said the G-5 would be back in Nigeria on December 30, for Wike to attend his scheduled meeting with the Ogoni Council of Chiefs on December 31.

The Rivers State governor had ordered all traditional rulers in Ogoni, whether dead or alive, to attend the meeting, and that he would not tolerate any reason to be absent from the meeting.

The aggrieved PDP governors jetted off from the Port Harcourt International Airport.

The trip of the G-5 governors was confirmed by a top party chieftain in the state who pleaded anonymity.

The source said, “Yes, they left for the UK early yesterday morning, but I can’t say the reason for the trip.”
