Wimbledon refuse to show any live Euro 2024 matches including England games due to long-standing tradition

WIMBLEDON will not show any live matches from Euro 2024 due to a long-standing tradition.

Fans hoping to watch England’s quarter-final against Switzerland on Saturday on the big screens at the All England Club are set to be disappointed.

England’s quarter-final clash with Switzerland on Saturday will clash with the tennisREX

The Three Lions’ last eight encounter in Gelsenkirchen kicks off at 5pm.

Supporters at Wimbledon will be forced to watch the action on their own devices, though.

Tournament policy means that the big screens only show live tennis and will not be airing any matches from Euro 2024.

England previously played knockout matches at the same time as Wimbledon action during the 2018 World Cup and last Euros in 2021.

All England Club chair Debbie Jevans explained the decision last week, telling The Telegraph: “The big screens will be showing tennis.

“All the screens around the grounds will be showing tennis. We’ll only be showing tennis, as matches will be going on into the evenings.

“If England are doing well a few people may slip away to watch football, but the Euros won’t affect attendances.

“We’ve had record applications, all the hospitality packages have sold out so we’re not nervous. The ballot was oversubscribed and we sold out in record time.”

A win over Switzerland would see England into a semi-final match at 8pm on July 10.

That kick-off time would clash with the final matches of the day at Wimbledon, either from the men’s or women’s quarter-finals.

This year’s Wimbledon got underway on Monday and will run until July 14 with the men’s singles final.

Euro 2024 will also end on the same day with the final in Berlin at 8pm.

Fortunately for football fans, the tennis will be over by the time the Euro 2024 final kicks off in Germany.
