Youths Display Coffin As Massive Protest Against Hunger Erupts In Rivers

In Rivers State, a new wave of protests against hunger and poor governance erupted on Friday as youths blocked the busy Port Harcourt-Owerri highway.

Demonstrators, primarily young people, held up placards with various slogans and chanted anti-government songs.

Blocking the highway with a coffin and canopies, protesters expressed frustration over the deteriorating state of the road.

“The protest is against economic hardship and the major road has been blocked, the Port Hacourt-Owerri expressway has been blocked with coffin and canopies.

“We the youths of Ohaji Egbema are protesting against bad governance, against bad roads, lack of electricity, hunger.

“No clean water and lack of electricity in this local government,” a resident told SaharaReporters.

They also highlighted the ongoing issues of unclean water and unreliable electricity within the community.

This protest follows an earlier incident in October when unrest in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, turned violent, leaving one person dead amid clashes related to the state’s recent local government election.

Eyewitnesses reported gunfire in Bori, sparking panic as residents fled the scene.

Naval Officer Guns Down Colleague In Zamfara

Meanwhile, a Naval officer identified simply as Akila has reportedly killed his colleague during a heated argument in Dansadau, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara state.

Naija News learnt that the tragic incident happened on Friday at about 6am.

SaharaReporters quoted a source to have disclosed that the two personnel who were both serving at Team 3, former Operation Hadarin Daji now newly named Operation Sheto Yanma, engaged each other in a heated argument after which Leading Seaman (LS), Akila shot his colleague.

This morning at about 6am two Naval personnel having arguments and the other navy firing the other one at Team 3 former Operation Hadarin Daji now newly name Operation Sheto Yanma Dansadau community.

“The name of the Navy man who fired his colleague is LS Akila.

“As I’m talking to you now, LS Solomon is still with the military,” the source said.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, has confirmed the incident to newsmen.
