Zoning: PDP Speaks On Fixing Date For NEC Meeting
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that it has fixed a date for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to decide on zoning the 2023 presidential ticket.
Recall that the party had earlier inaugurated a 37-man zoning committee to deliberate on the right approach to the issues ahead of its primaries.
After concluding its assignment, the committee, led by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, last week Tuesday submitted its report to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
Following the submission, the NWC is expected to convene the National Executive Committee (NEC) where the committee report will be debated and an amicable resolution that will dictate the party’s next move will be arrived at.
However, a report emerged on Sunday that the NEC had fixed its meeting for Thursday to decide on the report of the committee.
Reacting to the report, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, said no date has been fixed for the NEC meeting.
Ologunagba stated that a date will be announced at the appropriate time by the leadership of the party.
He said: “No date has been fixed. When the date is fixed, it will be announced as appropriate.”
Naija News understands that PDP had believed zoning will affect its bid to reclaim power come 2023, hence the idea of allowing all those interested in the ticket from any part of the country to battle it out.
